First CREWS Djibouti Project Steering Committee Meeting

SHARE

The first CREWS Djibouti Project Steering Committee virtual meeting on 16 February 2026 brings together Implementing Partners World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and national institutions to discuss progress and overall direction to strengthen multi-hazard early warning systems in Djibouti.

This meeting marks a milestone in our collective effort to enhance Djibouti’s resilience against the increasing threats posed by climate-related hazards, including droughts, floods, extreme heat, and coastal risks.

In its second year of implementation, key outputs include:

  • Institutional capacity was strengthened through preparatory steps for the National Strategic Plan and Framework for Weather, Water and Climate Services.
  • Djibouti’s first-ever Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) warning, demonstrating tangible operational progress and positioning Djibouti within the global alerting community.
  • Djibouti’s Early Warnings For All Roadmap is under development. Once finalized, it will provide a nationally validated strategic framework to strengthen multi-hazard early warning systems.
  • Communication systems and community-level preparedness were enhanced, including National Meteorological Agency’s (ANM) new website and Red Cross-led community flood management engaging 140+ community members.
  • Gender-responsive and inclusive approaches are being mainstreamed, with encouraging progress at 60% toward the end-of-project target.
