Assessing and piloting to enhance regional collaboration and institutional capacities for early warning in Africa

SHARE

We’re delighted to share that the CREWS Steering Committee has officially approved the Accelerated Support Window (ASW) action led by African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) and implemented with World Meteorological Organization (WMO), through WMO Regional Association I (RAI), to bolster regional collaboration and institutional capacities for multi-hazard early warning systems across Africa.

This ASW will:
✅ Develop a collaboration framework between ACMAD, the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET), and WMO to mobilize expertise for early warning
✅ Support select African National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in relation to institutional strengthening, strategic planning, framework for climate services, user interfaces, digital transformation (CAP, WIS2box, ClimWeb) and quality management
✅ Ensure more optimal use of the resources available from other projects

This 12-month programme will also contribute to improved forecasting, increased access to early warnings, and enhanced capacity to disseminate warnings – laying the foundation for more resilient communities across Africa.
