The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), hosted by the Government of Ethiopia in partnership with the African Union, aims to position Africa at the forefront of the global climate agenda. This year’s theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development” aims to advancing African-led climate solutions and catalyzing bold financial and political commitments.
On 9 September 2025, the African Center of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) led a high-level panel discussion at the Rockefeller Foundation Pavillion on ‘Advancing Climate Services & Financing for Africa’s Resilience’. Highlights included CREWS’s support in strengthening climate resilience in Malawi, and Save the Children’s innovative use of children as climate messengers to reach the last mile. Attended by around 50 participants from different entities including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), African Development Bank Group (AfDB), United Nations for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), NORCAP and other partners, the session aligned closely with the ACS2 theme as the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services showcased its ongoing activities, existing partnerships, and opportunities for scaling up. This dialogue also allowed stakeholders to explore practical solutions to access climate finance through accreditation, readiness support, innovative business models, and public–private partnerships.

“Climate change is happening with hazards impacting African livelihood as a whole, with lack of financial resources and infrastructures, the best adaptation strategy against climate change is a strong early warning system to allow anticipation through early action, CREWS working closely with Malawi Met is demonstrating its feasibility”.
CREWS’s Champion, Dr Ousmane Ndiaye from ACMAD
