On 14th October 2024, CREWS hosted a special session alongside the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in Manila, Philippines.

This session brings together key stakeholders and partners on early warning and early action to collaboratively shape the future of the Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative.

The objective is to gather insights and recommendations from partners in the region that will help inform CREWS’s operational and investment plans through 2030.

More than 120 participants from Ministries, National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), National Disaster Management Offices (NDMOs), Red Cross societies, Civil Society, UN agencies and Development Partners as well as Country delegations from the Asia Pacific have participated. The discussions on the five building blocks (Scale of Ambition, Scope, Operational Modality, Policy Alignment, and Strategic Partnership) were very fruitful, with participants sharing excellent inputs. Those inputs and recommendations will help inform CREWS’s operational and investment plans through 2030, which focus on scaling up efforts, improving accessibility to climate financing, and enhancing the scope and impact of CREWS Initiative.

CREWS would like to express sincere appreciation to all stakeholders involved in the session for their valuable supports and contributions in engaging under the topic of Early Warning systems. Special thanks to United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Government of the Philippines for organizing the conference and providing an effective and inclusive platform.
